Autumn Embers

Dying spark of evening light
Dimmer tremble of starry night
Partnered to the call of autumn lark
That sings out through the dark
Fire lit coals and dying embers
Beat to the quiet light of autumn ambers
The summer flame flickered and chilled
Hot blood and frantic life stilled
Quiet drifting night infused with calm
Falling leaves the forgotten psalm
Life to death and death to life
Filled with patience and with strife
Yet life one last flurry makes
Of life and death the final stakes
Return to bed and take your chance
A light, a night, a last summer dance.

Oh, I loved this deeply. It reminded me of Shakespeare's Sonnet 73.
