The Sweetest Song

There is a sweetness in this song,

A grace in the singing.

There is love among the singers

And a longing in the listeners.

How sweet to yearn for unity,

How gracious is the Triune-

That He would tie you to me

And me to you in congregate togetherness.

What then is this life together?

But struggle, sacrifice, and suffering-

Though most of all let it be love

Depthless in sacrificial suffering

To lift up one another,

To hold tight the words of love together,

To be hands and feet, mouth and tongue,

To be the workers, the children, the beloved-

Together.
